Wireless Wireless is here and growing at a fast rate. The world is becoming more mobile and wireless technologies are used to facilitate that need. Wireless working has many meanings and can be interpreted in many ways from the use of a pc with a wireless keyboard and mouse, to the full ability of being able to perform any task any where without the use of any wires. Therefore our clients’ requirements differ dramatically from situation to situation. Full wireless solutions including remote working can incorporate many different devices and technologies and can therefore be very complex to implement and design. Obviously security in a wireless environment is key with denial of access to a casual hacker but allowing full access to “authorised users”. ICT NorthWest have developed many systems for clients which take into account the varying levels of access required and the differing environments in which the solutions are to be deployed. Most UK companies either have or plan to implement some level of wireless device. Whether it be a full wireless and remote working solution or just the ability to collect e-mail while on the road or at home. Firms believe that investing in this technology will make them more competitive in their market place. According to the Institute of Directors & Toshiba “just 21 percent of firms say they have a strategy that defines how wireless should be deployed in their business. Companies without such a strategy risk missing out on the opportunities offered by wireless.” This is a worrying percentage and companies who have failed to develop a wireless strategy or plan could find that they will have a negative effect on productivity should the solution be implemented incorrectly. With this in mind companies who have a strategy or plan can prosper with the use of wireless technologies. “Wireless is a powerful tool and implemented correctly it can save a company many thousands of pounds or increase productivity by the implementation of a well structured wireless strategy.” Companies often implement poorly designed wireless structures with no real business benefit. Some are never used by the company or its visitors. An overview of your wireless system and especially review of the security is essential. Call ICT NorthWest to discuss your options.
